There is a quotation posted up on the school campus relating to this. It is “ Teacher opens the door, but you must enter by yourself”.
The world is a big place. There are many things to learn. Teachers can help you understand. They can point out what are the key points, where to be cautious. But after the teacher has taught you, it is up to you to actually go out to learn and do. The teacher has opened the door, but it is your responsibility to take the step through the door. Learning from a teacher is fine, but it has the limitations like looking out a window. You can read about sailing, but nothing is the same as standing on a deck while hoisting a sail. Walk through the door opens up many experiences. The recollections of your experience will come back the next time when you learn other knowledges. It is your choice and your responsibility to choose to walk or not to walk through the door.
Also, you are responsible to different persons at different ages. But the most important person you are responsible to is YOU, yourself. You are encouraged to set learning tasks and goals. Always stick to your goals, keep motivated to learn new things, grab the chance to widen your horizon, be proactive to seek advice from others and so on. Once you set your goals, put full effort to pursue them and you will probably live out your dream. This is how you are responsible to yourself.
