Working as a Team

As a uniform group, we work as a team. During our weekly gatherings, we are divided into 4 groups, and we will perform different tasks together. Each of us has a role in our group. By cooperating with each other, we are able to complete tasks like building a flag rack, backwoods cooking, foot drilling, and enjoy games!

Can you spot the similarity of these activities? They cannot be accomplished by only one person. We must work as a team. One of the examples is foot drilling competition. In a foot drilling competition, we have to form a squad and march in different formations. It is meaningless if there is only one person marching alone. In a foot drilling team, students are responsible for different roles to guide, lead and work jointly with other teammates. There is a commander, a flag-bearer, a right marker, and other squadmates. We have to cooperate and practise together in order to match and coordinate our moves.

Besides, we also show our team spirit at school events. For example, while preparing for the Club Orientation Day, we had to set up stalls for each club. When one is tying square lashing knots on the bamboo, the other one has to hold the bamboo still. If there is only one person, the stall would surely collapse and it would take ages for one stall to be set up. This explains the importance of teamwork and solidarity.

Not only in scouts, solidarity is also important in our daily lives. Cooperation can give us strength to achieve more things. And by having solidarity in a team, we can always support one another and work together towards the same goal. Helen Keller, a political activist, once said, “Alone we can do little, together we can do so much.” May we always remember the importance of solidarity and learn to work as a team with others.
