Who are to watch the watches

Before we start, I’d like to ask you a question. Do you have any posts in the school? If yes, please raise your hand and give a round of applause to yourself and those around you, as you are all serving your schoolmates in different ways.

I believe most of you have at least one or even more posts. And with different roles comes different responsibilities to be fulfilled accordingly. Today, we would like to share with you some of the duties we have as students, and citizens of Hong Kong, and the ways to fulfill them.

As a student, I believe there is no denying when I say that we have to finish our assignments on time. Yet, somehow we often find we do not have enough time to finish them. What should we do then? One of the most important things to remember is to always finish your work first before going to play and relax. In that way, I am sure you will find yourself with a lot more time left than before. Apart from that, we should always follow the school rules strictly as well to ensure that the school runs smoothly.

As Hong Kong citizens, we should be aware of what is happening in our society and take the opportunities to help the needy. As the classical question goes, who are to watch the watchers. We, as the people of Hong Kong, should pay our attention to the current affairs of Hong Kong, for this is the land we live and belong to. In this era of uncertainty, we are facing problems like poverty, hatred, pandemic, etc. In Isaiah 51, God said “Hear me, you who know justice, you people who have my teaching at heart: Do not fear the reproach of others; remain firm at their revailing” We should uphold the virtues and our values at all times, knowing that God, our LORD, shall safeguard those who act upon His orders. We should fulfill our civic duties in alignment to His teachings with determination.

Apart from that, there are several ways that we can follow to help those in need. The easiest way is to look out for the underprivileged community, whose members tend to hide themselves from the view of the public. Have you ever noticed someone sleeping under the shade of trees at the corner nobody ever looked at? Have you seen a wheelchair user who could not reach something too high for him to fetch? Let us have the courage to offer help to someone we do not know, as our LORD taught us that “Whatever you did for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me” If we all offer to help one people every week, there will be nearly thirty-four thousand people being helped in a year, which is half the population of the Yuen Long district.
