There was a boy named Tommy, he was an ordinary boy who expressed himself in an extraordinary way. Everyone called him the mime boy. When others were doing show-and-tell in class, he never said a word but mime. Miming makes Tommy become unique but also stands out from the crowd between him and others. This also makes Tommy feel lonely in class.
One day, when Tommy was kicking an imaginary football, a girl caught it. The girl was Joy who saw the world in the same way as Tommy. Tommy and Joy didn’t say a single word but they became best friends, as being friends needs no explanation.
After seeing Joy’s inclusiveness towards Tommy, others also started to accept Tommy. Although they still didn’t understand why Tommy and Joy were expressing themselves through mimes, they learnt to accept and respect each other.
The story about Tommy was short and simple but the message was strong. Everyone has their unique characteristics and difference. We cannot change how everyone is but we can all learn how to accept others, to accept the differences between ourselves and to respect each other.
