The Story of Nicholas James Vujicic

The theme of this month is Embracing Challenges, which means being open to opportunities that can test you, confront you, and help you discover your inner strength. Today we are going to tell you a story of a man named Nicholas James Vujicic from Australia and how he became successful by embracing his challenges.

Nick was born without arms or legs. He is famous for spreading positivity and hope as a motivational speaker. To be who he is today, he has gone through a lot, with his faith in God and the support from his family and friends.

Throughout his childhood and adolescence, he struggled not only with the typical challenges, such as bullying, but also extreme depression and anxiety. Questioning his purpose in life, he even attempted suicide.

But things changed when his mother showed him a newspaper article about a man embracing his disability. Nick realized he wasn’t the only one suffering and began to embrace his lack of limbs. He became grateful for his life and decided to inspire the others.

Overcoming every difficulty life puts in front of him, he can do things you’ll never believe a man with no arms and legs can do. Nick can write with two toes on his left foot, play sports like golf, football, go swimming and even sky-diving. He has also learned to perform activities like getting a glass of water and combing his hair.

Once he found the wonders in life, he started to influence the others. He first helped with fundraising events for local charities and disability campaigns. Then, he started to give talks at his prayer group. Later in life, he founded his own non-profit organization called “Life Without Limbs” to spread the Gospel.

His story is inspiring. I’ve also encountered some challenges myself. Coming up onto the stage is a challenge for me. I didn’t have the best experience going up on stage and I am not used to speaking in English in front of so many people but I didn’t escape from this challenge.

I appreciate your courage. If you need a friend to practice speaking in English with, I’m here. Allow me to end our sharing with a quote from Nick, “If I fail, I try again, and again, and again. If YOU fail, are you going to try again? The human spirit can handle much worse than we realize. It matters HOW you are going to FINISH. Are you going to finish strong?”
