Sometimes we might think, why and how should we take responsibility? Now, let us tell you a short story.
Once upon a time, there were two families living nearby. One family was constantly arguing and even fighting among themselves while the other one lived peacefully. Feeling curious and jealous about how nicely the neighbouring family got along, the wife of the constant fighting family went to her neighbour’s home and would like to ask for the secret of living happily.
The wife saw a woman who was cleaning the floor. Something suddenly distracted the woman and she ran to the kitchen. She found out her husband kicked the bucket of water accidentally and spilled out the water without noticing it. The husband said to the woman, “ I am sorry, it’s my fault, I didn’t notice the bucket. I will clean up.”
The wife reflected on how her family did when there were problems, they kept blaming others and making excuses. After the wife saw how her neighbours tackle problems peacefully, she finally understood the secret is taking responsibility.
From this short story, we can see how important taking responsibility is. As a student, meeting academic expectations, being punctual and respectful, maintaining discipline, completing assigned work on time and keeping our campus nice and neat are all responsibilities that we should take at school. When we make mistakes, we should not make excuses but we should own up to the mistakes we made, accept the consequences, and be accountable. By shouldering responsibilities, it helps us to grow and gain experiences from every mistake we’ve made.
All of us should shoulder responsibility for our actions, be accountable for the results and take ownership of our mistakes. When we keep thinking everything is someone else’s fault, we will never learn and grow. When we realize everything springs only from ourselves, we will gain both peace and joy.
