The History of creating a harmonious society

Good morning, we are the representatives of the History Club. The theme for this month is “Caring campus, harmonious society”. Today, let’s focus on the idea of a harmonious society. In a harmonious society, people live with affection, gratitude and respect for one another, and solve the dissensions in a peaceful way rather than through violent measures. From Matthew chapter 26, line 52, says ‘Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.’ Indeed, the rise of Hitler and his decisions of starting war had led to the failure of his expansion.
However, when we look back at history, we can see that creating a harmonious society is challenging. It is hard to fulfil and let everyone satisfy about what they get at the same time. Such as the US want oil in the middle east while the Soviet want to propose communism every single where on Earth. There are numerous obstacles that hinder our progress toward this goal.
Over thousands of years, millions of people have lost their lives due to various conflicts. Throughout recorded history, the term “war” has appeared frequently. Conflicts most likely arise for different reasons, often linked to the interests of nations. Notable examples include the Persian Wars, Napoleonic Wars, World War I, and World War II. These wars resulted in the deaths of millions, suggesting that achieving a harmonious society may seem impossible. Even though we knew wars kill a lot, human doesn’t take the lesson carefully. From the Korean war in the 1950s, to the Vietnam war till the 70s. From the Gulf War to the Iraq war. Hundreds of thousands of people lost their properties, lost their home, and even lost their lives.
On the other hand, people throughout history have attempted to improve society in various ways. The League of Nations was established to achieve this goal. Unfortunately, history shows that it ultimately failed. It could not prevent another world war from occurring just 20 years after the first, which had already caused over 10 million deaths. Paris Peace Conference is a good example of this. The aim of the conference was to stop war, but by the end, it indirectly led to the start of WWII just 20 years later, rather than bringing peace to the world.
Nevertheless, many individuals from different nations are working tirelessly to create a harmonious society. Nowadays, numerous organizations, both governmental and non-governmental, are dedicated to this cause. For instance, the United Nations Children’s Fund aims to improve the health and living standards of children around the world, especially in impoverished areas. The Red Cross is another organization that operates globally, helping those affected by disasters or wars. Although these organizations focus on different aspects, they share a common goal, which is to create a harmonious society.
