The Boy Who Cried Wolf

Everyone has different responsibilities. For example, as a student, we are responsible to finish our homework on time, to do revisions for exams, etc. Although it sounds easy to take responsibility in our daily life, we sometimes fail to do it due to different factors. Try to recall your memory, have you ever forgotten to do the homework because of video games or sleeping?

Let us share a story to make you understand easier. I bet all of you have listened to the story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf. Once upon a time, there was a boy named Peter whose parents are both sheep farmers and he was responsible to take care of the sheep for a day. He found it boring to stay with the sheep all day, so he decided to shout towards the village. He yelled, “The wolf is coming to attack me! Help me!” When the villagers heard it, they immediately climbed to the mountain and wanted to rescue Peter. However, they didn’t see any wolf, they just saw Peter sitting on a rock and laughing. They were annoyed with him.

For a while life went on again as usual. Until one day, Peter was asked to help his parents to look after the sheep again. He used the same trick to draw people’s attention again. Basically all villagers had forgotten the trick that Peter had made last time so they went to the hill with different weapons again. When they arrived, they realized that they were being tricked again. Most villagers felt angry and said they would not come again.

As time went by, villagers started to forgive Peter. However, when everyone was trying to forget what Peter did, someone heard him yelling the same thing again. This time nobody trusted him. The wolfs came and killed all the sheeps. Peter fought against the wolves by himself. Peter tried his best but all the sheeps were perished. Fortunately, Peter managed to escape from the fierce wolves. When he came back, all the villagers still thought that Peter was trying to prank them again. Peter was not trustworthy anymore. There was no trust between him and the villagers after all the things that Peter had done. Peter had no way home.

Despite the fact that many people have listened to this story before, they usually focus on honesty but omitted the responsibility part. The responsibility that Peter has to take for his action is that no one trusts him anymore and all the sheeps have died. It is the same in our life, we have to bear the responsibility for what we have done. If we forget to do our homework, we have to bear the responsibility of being scolded by teachers and we also have to apologize and do it as soon as possible.

I believe all of you have understood the importance of taking responsibility.
