First of all, I’d like to ask you a question, ‘Who’s responsible for your life?’ For many people, every mistake they make can be someone or something else’s fault. They blame others or make excuses for failure and excuses about their undesirable actions and behaviour. Blaming others and making excuses show that one does not want to take responsibility. However, each one of us should be totally responsible for our own life. No one can live a life for us. Therefore, it’s time to stop making excuses or blaming others but acknowledge that your life is your responsibility.
Today, I’d like to give you some tips about what you should do to become a responsible individual.
1. Don’t lie or cover up your mistakes. We all make mistakes sometimes and owning up to those mistakes shows responsibility. If we try to cover up mistakes or lie, we will only fill our lives with negativity and failure.
2. Gently remind yourself – no excuses. Sometimes we make poor choices and those choices may lead to negative consequences. Instead of making excuses and shifting the responsibility to somebody or something else, why don’t we see those negative consequences as good reminders which encourage us to make better choices next time?
3. Develop good time management skills. Time management plays a significant role in responsible behaviour. If you plan your time well, you will make better decisions. You may have many commitments, from extra classes to extracurricular activities. But homework and revision remain the most substantial tasks you have to complete. Be wise to prioritize your tasks depending on their importance. If you fail to submit homework on time or are unable to achieve certain goals, there might be problems related to time management. Then stay calm, review the schedule and work out a new plan again. Remember, don’t be frustrated or give up easily as every experience is an opportunity for us to learn and grow.
Shungtakians, after all, your attitude and thought matter the most. Be brave to take complete responsibility for your lives and take your time to make progress. It is hoped that God will grant us courage and perseverance to become responsible individuals always.
