We heard about responsibility in our speech and action last week. Today, I want to share a story about taking responsibility as a friend.
Once upon a time, two best friends named Mark and Emily. They were both diligent students, but they had different strengths and weaknesses when it came to academics. Mark good at English and history, while Emily had a natural talent for science and art. However, they both shared a common challenge – mathematics.
As their math examination approached, Mark and Emily were worried about their mathematics result. Mark joined extra classes outside school while Emily asked her math teacher for help.
When the exam results were announced, their fears were confirmed. Mark and Emily had received disappointing grades. Instead of dwelling on their disappointment, they made a promise to themselves to take charge of their results and assist each other in getting better.
During their study sessions, Mark and Emily tackled math problems together. When one of them faced a challenge, the other would offer explanations and examples until they both fully understood the concept. They encouraged each other, celebrating even the smallest victories along the way.
When the next math exam approached, Mark and Emily were ready. They supported each other throughout the exam, offering encouraging smiles and reminders that they had prepared.
When the results were published, Mark and Emily’s efforts had paid off. Their grades had significantly improved. They knew that it was a result of the support they provided to each other.
As a Shungtakian, we always take the responsibility as a student, study hard, hand in homework on time. But have you ever taken the responsibility as a friend and cared about your classmates’ feelings?
