Starting the New Year with self-acceptance

Happy new year! Did you enjoy your Christmas Holiday? Having Countdown at Victoria Harbour? Sharing your great moments of 2025 on instagram? Or making a new list of new year’s resolutions?

New year’s resolution often brings with the idea that at every new year we have the chance to reset and restart with new intentions or a new lifestyle. While the idea of being able to remake ourselves within the new year is very encouraging, it feels like a symbolic opportunity to reflect on personal shortcomings, leave behind bad habits, and make a fresh start by setting ambitious goals for a better version of ourselves., the general message of “New Year, New You” tends to leave out a very important part of self-improvement: self-acceptance.

While we evaluate our experiences and lessons from the past 12 months, try identifying habits or routines that have served you well and those that may no longer fit and celebrating the small victories, such as resilience during tough times or efforts to try something new. There might not be only the happy or the great moments in 2025, there may also be flaws or setbacks. Let’s us learn to forgive yourself. When we begin to embrace our real, imperfect, and beautiful selves, just as we are right now, we start to let go of our negative view of ourselves. We also have hope for a better me or a better future. Acceptance doesn’t mean giving up. You know you can continue your journey as we recognise we have everything we need. We also trust that God has his own plan and put on faith in God. Through prayer, we ask for God’s strength for self-improvement and growth.

Besides praying for ourselves, there are some incidents happening around the globe during our holiday, including the fire who took 40 lives in Switzerland the political instability in Venezuela. Let us also pray for the victims, their families and for world peace.
