“Namaste” do you know which countries’ people use it as a greeting? The answer is India and Nepal. You may not choose those places for your travel destinations, but you still can use it in your daily life, especially in Yuen Long.
“According to 2021 Population Census Thematic Report: Ethnic Minorities, around 3 hundred thousand ethnic minorities, which excluding foreign domestic helpers, were living in HK. The number of them increased significantly by 37.3% within 10 years. The increase was mainly due to the increase in the number of Filipinos and South Asians. It is easy to meet Indians, Pakistanis and Nepalese in Yuen Long as they constitute 6.8% of the population of our district.
“Although there were some news about South Asians in Yuen Long which is bias against them, they are same as us who also face reality and difficulties in studying or seeking jobs. Please try to show more understanding on the minorities. Maybe start from the greeting I just taught you, “Namaste”.
