“Respect” is a two-way street

The theme of this month is “Respect for others”. I want to start my sharing with two questions. How often do you show respect to others? How often do you feel respected by others? “Respect” is a two-way street. We can’t be rude to others but expect respect in return. Everyone wants to be respected.

I want to share one thing that happened in the Form one class I teach this year. During our lesson, I asked the students to use some given words related to addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to answer some questions. The students were very smart and managed to answer all questions correctly. Therefore, I gave them a bigger challenge. I asked them to use an equation to show the relation between dividend, divisor, quotient and remainder. One girl came out and tried. However, there were some errors found in her different trials. Very soon, some classmates started going, “Ha~ Wow~” Then I made them think, “What’s the meaning of your Ha~ and Wow~? If you were the one standing in front of the blackboard, how would you feel? If you find any mistakes, you can give some hints or suggestions to help and encourage your classmate.”

I would like to share some words from the bible.

Proverbs 15:28 “The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking; the mouth of the wicked overflows with evil words.”

Luke 6:31 “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”

Students, I hope that your answer to the two questions I asked at the beginning is “Very frequent”.
