Today we celebrate Founders Day and our 65th Anniversary. Let us remember what it took for us to be here today — in a school that has many firsts. The first English school in Yuen Long and the first public examination center offering English exams in Yuen Long. The founders of our school, and our predecessors, had a vision — the need for an education in English in the small rural town of Yuen Long. We do not need to look at American history to see what responsibility is but right what is in our own yard, the yard of STC and what the founders of our school took on the responsibility of building. Let us remember them on this day and be thankful for their vision and for their work.
In Luke, Chapter 12, Verse 48, we read: ‘From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.’ If you have heard this line of wisdom, you know it means we are held responsible for what we have.
Today we are reminded that we have been blessed with our school, Shung Tak — this is the much we have been given and if we recall what I just read from Luke, what this means is that MUCH will be demanded. God has given to us our health, time, our talents; and the blessings of a school with teachers with heart. We need to be thankful for this ‘wealth’ we have been given so that we can follow our school mission to glorify the Creator with our work. We have also been entrusted with much, STC, a school that offers a renowned education in English and it is with this we are again reminded that much more will be asked of you to BUILD on this! This is your SOLEMN RESPONSIBILITY — the responsibility of EACH AND EVERY SINGLE MEMBER of this school as a member of STC.
Like the message of the Parable of the Talents, the verse from Luke highlights that God can given us resources and abilities, and He expects us to make the most of what we have been given for His purposes and for His glory.
On this special day, let us say the School Prayer together, turn to your Handbook, page 1:
Make us receptive and open,
and may we accept Your kingdom
like children taking bread
from the hands of their father.
Let us live in your peace
At home with You
all the days of our life.
Amen.
