Before we begin, we have a question for you. Have you ever struggled to take up a responsibility because you’re insecure? In our school, students are provided with numerous opportunities to shine, like being an executive member of the Students’ Union, houses, teams and clubs, especially when you are appointed to be a leader, the role model of other students. Are there moments when you doubt whether you are the best option for the post?
Today, we want to share with you a powerful story that teaches us the importance of shouldering responsibility. It’s a story that goes back thousands of years to the time of Moses, a man who initially denied the weight of responsibility but eventually embraced it and became a savior.
Moses was called upon by a higher power to lead his people, the Israelites, out of bondage in Egypt. At first, Moses denied this responsibility. He thought that he wasn’t a good speaker and doubted if anyone would follow him. He questioned why he was chosen.
Gradually, Moses realized that he needed to trust in something greater than himself. He understood that true leadership is not about personal abilities but about being a vessel for a higher purpose. With this faith, he found strength and guidance. He embraced his calling and accepted the responsibility that laid before him.
He confronted Pharaoh, demanding the release of his people. He not only saved the Israelites from slavery but also empowered them to create a new life for themselves.
The story of Moses teaches us that denying responsibility only delays our growth and hinders our ability to make a difference. By trusting ourselves and those around us, we can transform our doubts into strengths and embrace the responsibility that is placed upon us.
In this story, we can also look at the faith God has in us. Instead of choosing another person for the mission, God repeatedly told Moses that he was not alone, saying ‘I will be with you’, and ‘I am who I am.’ God knew that Moses had the ability, he was just not confident enough to take up this enormous and great duty. Well, in fact he faltered his faith in God too by questioning the calling. But God is not leaving Moses because of that. God is patient, he explained to Moses and also guided him to seek help from his brother, Aaron.
Dear schoolmates, whenever you question whether you are underqualified for a duty, keep in mind that God will be with you and prepare the best for you. Work with the trust in God and even with your friends, just like how Moses sought help from his brother, Aaron. With such a faith, you will be more self-assured to take up responsibilities and make great progress.
