From Genesis chapters 6 to 8, we learn about the story of Noah, who is described as a righteous man who lived during a time of widespread wickedness and corruption in the world. God chose Noah to build an ark and save his family, as well as pairs of every kind of living creature, from a global flood sent to purify the Earth. Noah faithfully followed God’s instructions to build the ark and gather the animals, bringing them into the ark along with his family. Once they were all inside, God shut the door of the ark. The flood lasted for 40 days and 40 nights and the floodwaters covered the entire Earth. Only Noah and those with him in the ark were saved.
The narrative suggests that the people of Noah’s time paid little attention to or disregarded God’s warnings. They may have even laughed at or criticized Noah for his obedience to God’s command to build the ark, viewing him as foolish or irrational.
While many of you may already be familiar with the story of Noah, it is worth thinking about what we would do if we were Noah. You might think that building an ark is an extraordinary task that you would never be asked to do. However, faithfulness is not limited to extraordinary tasks like building an ark, but it extends to the everyday situations where we are called to step out in obedience to God. Sometimes, we are given challenging tasks and may face criticism from those around us. During these times, our faithfulness is tested, and it becomes vital to persevere and maintain our trust in God.
When facing difficulties or challenges, it can be tempting to give up or be swayed by the opinions of others. However, the story of Noah serves as a reminder that faithfulness requires unwavering commitment. In the same way that Noah remained steadfast in his obedience to God’s command, we too can draw strength from our faith to continue moving forward.
It is essential to bear in mind that our faithfulness not only influences our own lives but also impacts the lives of others. Just as Noah’s faithfulness and perseverance resulted in the preservation of his family and the continuation of life on Earth, our faithfulness can also be a source of blessing and salvation to those around us. Let us strive to maintain our faith and trust in God, knowing that through our faithfulness, we have the potential to make a positive impact on Earth.
