Love consists of various forms, but no matter it is enjoyable or suffering, all of them requires waiting. Loving someone or something will certainly sacrifice our time, but it’s worth it when the one you care about is doing well. And that’s why love is patient. While it is the same for the love towards science.
The patient love of biologist towards their expertise is certainly amazing. Molecular biology writer Tina Hesman Saey describes a milestone in the gene editing of human embryos, one that could ultimately help treat a potentially fatal heart disease. But there’s a long way to go before clinical trials can begin. The same is true for the search for new contraceptives, described by biomedical writer Aimee Cunningham. Many new approaches are still in testing in rats. And even once a potential drug reaches clinical trials, there’s no guarantee of success.
Another example is the research of the virus affecting us all these years. The mutation of virus has driven researchers mad since multiple variants exists, waiting for them to discover whether they are dangerous or not. Researchers work nights and weekends to learn what a new variant has in store for humanity. Is it more infectious? More deadly? Is it better at reinfecting recovered people? How well does it evade vaccine? And where did it come from? Even so, they are patient in fulfilling their responsibility. The strong will of patience doesn’t come from the salary waiting to be received, but simply love. The love towards humanity and science.
Love + patience + curiosity = success . Scientists curiosity is long lasting since they are patient enough to solve their mystery at all means, while love is the motivation of everything. If you constantly feel impatient, you are not loving much. Delve more into yourself. Once there is something you are willing to achieve, despite the prolonged process. You have acquired patience and thus, love.
