Good morning, we are the representatives of the board games club. The theme of this month is “Be good at listening, willing to serve.”
Before we start, let me ask you a question: Have you ever listened to someone’s voice carefully and tried your best to serve? Listening is not just about staying quiet; it is about valuing another’s voice, even when it’s different from your own. Today, let us share the story of Fred Rogers and how we can practice listening and serving in our daily lives.
Fred Rogers was the host of the children’s TV show Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. He dedicated his life to listening to children. He always paid attention to their concerns and questions. He listened carefully and believed that children’s feelings were the most important. Once a teenager wrote to him about a family member who was suffering from an illness. Fred didn’t just send a reply letter; he talked with him for 20 minutes and comforted his feelings. He believed that listening was an act of love. No matter how small the voice is, it deserves to be heard. This is also a value we should always uphold.
Fred Rogers shared one important idea: listening and serving are the foundations for building good relationships with others and living in a wonderful way. Imagine if everyone in society listened like Fred Rogers and served others with kindness. The bonds between people would be stronger, communities would be warmer, and everyone would feel included and loved.
Being a good listener with a willingness to serve allows you to meet the true needs of others rather than just focus on your own agenda. Only when you truly understand the needs of others can you offer appropriate assistance and thereby help them. This value can also be applied to board games.
When playing board games, no one wins alone. We should focus on the true value of the game rather than just on winning or losing. Listening means we don’t miss out on great ideas that come from our opponents in the game. Serving means we lift each other up, giving everyone a chance to shine and showcase their strengths and talents. By concentrating on listening, we turn the game into a practice for social skills and strategy, ultimately making you a stronger and more engaging player.
Therefore, listening and serving are crucial in every aspect of life. When someone talks to you, put down your phone, look at them, and really listen to what they are saying. Perform small acts of kindness for others without expecting anything in return. It can be as simple as helping someone carry something or inviting someone quiet to join your conversation.
So, when you listen and serve, those small acts might seem insignificant, but when they add up, they can change the lives of others. That is how we make every moment better: by listening and serving.
