Learn from every success and failure

Today is the last day of the post exam activity period, that we will have the Prize Giving Day and the Parents Day tomorrow and the day after tomorrow respectively.

For those who performed well in different areas and will receive prizes on the stage tomorrow, or passed the exams with flying colours that high ranks are shown on your report cards, I feel happy for you that your hard work paid off.

You should thank yourself for your perseverance, because in this year, we all learned in the hybrid mode, many lessons were conducted online and it was not easy to be attentive for some of you. Also be thankful that this challenge has been taken as an opportunity to further your self-learning capacity.

Let’s also thank those who helped your learning this year. Teachers who prepared materials for you to learn remotely, parents who provided you a quiet environment at home to study, friends who have been supportive at your hard times, … etc.

For those who did not perform so well this year, also be grateful that you can reflect on the experience of this year, and have the chance to think about how you can improve next year. Remember, what you can learn from failures could be more than learning from a success.

Instead of getting down on yourself, try to assess what has gone wrong. Instead of coming up with excuses that blame everyone else, take accountability and find things that you could have done differently. Instead of taking failure as a sign that you shouldn’t do something, thank God who gave you the chance to find the lessons you need to learn and apply them to your plan going forward.

The shortest summer holiday is about to start, and the new school year will begin in a month. No matter your performance this year is up to your expectation or not, still be grateful for the chances to learn through every success or failure. Make good use of the summer holiday, reflect on what you have done this year and I wish you all a better year to come.
