Finally, today is the last day of the Interim Exam. The moment your teacher says “this is the end of the examination” is just 2 hours away from now on. I am sure all of you are looking forward to the Lunar New Year holiday tomorrow after these two weeks of hard work and revision. This holiday seems to carry different meanings among all of you. Some of you may have planned to travel elsewhere during the holiday. Some of you may have planned to take this time to be well rested at home. For S6 students, probably you have already made a schedule to do your last-minute revision before the public exam. Above all the plans, I hope this holiday provides you an opportunity to gather with your close family or even your extended family to talk about what is going on in your life.
Speaking of seeing your extended family, some people may have mixed feelings about it. Some of you may have your piggy bank cleared getting ready for the new blessings received in the coming days. Some of you may start to worry about all the social engagements with the relatives whom you barely remember their names. Even on the news media, they also joke about the pressure from seeing your extended family during Lunar New Year, especially some Aunts and Uncles. No matter what feeling you may hold, this reminds me of a Christmas movie, Krampus. Spoiler alert! Krampus is a mythical demon who punishes those who don’t give the Christmas holiday its proper due. A little boy makes a wish to have all his family members removed from his life after a minor toy fight with his cousins. Not long after, Krampus arrives and grants him his wish. After different degrees of suffering among his family, this little boy finally realises the importance of his family regardless of whether they are nice or mean to him.
This Christmas movie may not be a merry one, but it successfully depicts the true spirit of Christmas in western society. It is a time to gather with your family members. Similar to Lunar New Year, it is also a time for us to reunite with our family members. Regardless of our relationship with them, the warmth and joy of spending time with our family can never be replaced by anything in the world. Sometimes, we may have disagreements, but our love to our family will eventually teach us to cherish our annoying yet lovable family, just like the little boy in the movie Krampus.
Love endures all things. I hope you all can make good use of your Lunar New Year to spend some quality time with your family, but not just playing with your mobile phones or computer games in the holiday.
