Nowadays, STEM education is becoming more and more important. Our school has also continuously increased STEM teaching equipment in the past few years in order to improve students’ programming knowledge, problem solving skills and collaborative skills. In addition to allowing students to cooperate with each other and self-reflect in classrooms or activities, we also hope that Shungtakian will give back to society. One of the major concerns of our school is to further inculcate the Catholic core values through service learning. The Bible teaches us, whoever has a desire to be first among you, let him be servant of all. For truly the Son of man did not come to have servants, but to be a servant.
We don’t need to impact the world like many great people in the technology area, such as Steve Job launching the iPhone or Elon Musk’s SpaceX project. Let me share a bible story with you. Jesus got up from the table, put off his robe and took a cloth and put it round him. Then he put water into a basin and was washing the feet of the disciples and drying them with the cloth which was round him. Although washing the disciples’ feet is not a big act, it has a profound impact on the disciples’ future services. Therefore, we only need to use our limited talents to help others, such as becoming student teachers to teach primary school students in the same district or share your design or outcome to help those in need. One small step for us, one big leap for the others. We just need to do a simple act and share our achievements to the needy. It is more blessed to give than to receive.
