The theme of this month is Faith and Hope. By definition, Faith is confidence or trust in something or someone not based on proof ie. Believing in things unseen. Hope is an optimistic attitude based on expectation or desire. There are many bible stories about Faith and Hope. Let me share one with you.
Daniel was a faithful man of God, He prayed to God three times a day earnestly. He was favored above the presidents and princes because of his calm and humble spirit. Because of jealousy, other princes wanted to find something to accuse him of and wanted to use his faith against him. So these men had a meeting with the King to make a law that anyone found praying to any other God or man would be thrown into the den of lion’s.
However, Daniel refused to bow down and adapt to people and let them form him with their opinions and rules, even if it meant that he had to die. He did not stop praying as he served God alone. He was then arrested and thrown into the Lions’ den. However, God does not think like people, and He is not limited like we are. Even surrounded by danger, the Almighty God looked after His faithful Daniel and Daniel did not get a scratch from the lions.
Daniel not only had faith in Lord, he also had hope as he knew God would save him for sure. Faith and hope are certainly connected, “Only faith can guarantee the blessings that we hope for, or prove the existence of realities that are unseen” (Hebrews 11:1)
We are every day surrounded by difficulties and temptations. However, Daniel’s faith taught us a valuable lesson, always pray and obey God’s instructions. The story of Daniel is a marvelous demonstration of the power of prayer. God hears the prayers of the faithful.
Let us have the same mindset as Daniel had, so that we should pray to God every day for grace to be preserved in His will. God has promised that we just do our best and He will do the rest. Now, let’s pray for our day.
