God granted humans a pair of ears to listen. Do we make good use of them? Do we only listen to what we want to hear, or do we listen to what others want to express? When we listen, do we take the words to heart and show understanding? Everyone is unique. We look different, think differently, and act differently. That’s why, amidst the black and white, and outside of the usual practices and general beliefs, understanding is always necessary.
Sometimes even the small things that you do, are showing your understanding to others, like how students understand us, prefects, by taking the initiative to line up properly and provide clear reasons when wearing PE uniform. They do facilitate our duties with their understanding. Although it may seem like a small practice, the record-keeping can help us as students to be understood and potentially avoid further consequences by providing proper reasons. Imagine a world without understanding, but only rules of dos and don’ts, we no longer need to bother to wait and write on the form, things may be done more quickly and easily, but we lost the chance to be understood and it’s easy to cause mistrust..
What does the bible tell us about showing understanding? In James 1:19, Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. As prefects,it is necessary for us to show understanding to both teachers and students.Sometimes, teachers might arrive to the classroom a bit late after recess because they were attending to other students. They might also be busy doing their work. However, it is important to understand their situation. We should think in their perspective and wait for them patiently. On Mondays, some students might forget to speak in English. It’s important to show understanding and remind them to speak in English, rather than scolding or complaining about them.
Understanding others is very important for every individual. Not only prefects need to show understanding, every student should show their understanding to others.Imagine if everyone only thought about themselves and lived in their own world; what would the world become? If we only think about ourselves at school, will you have a good time with your classmates? It is necessary to learn how to get along with others at school, and understanding others helps a lot.By thinking in a different perspective,we will understand others more and respect their actions more as a result. When troubles are caused by others and bring inconvenience to you, it can be helpful to try to understand and forgive them. Therefore, understanding others helps to maintain a harmonious learning environment for all the students.
We should demonstrate understanding not just in school, but also in our communities and among our friends and family. It’s not just about understanding things after they’ve been clearly justified. Even when we haven’t seen the full picture, we can still choose to listen, seek to understand, and take further action. It’s a choice for us to make. Because God is always with us, offering understanding and forgiveness, we can ask for His help in opening our ears, remaining patient and avoiding judgment or anger.
