Good morning, Principal, teachers and fellow students.
We are the representatives of Class 3M. On this solemn morning, as we gather under our national flag, we wish to speak on the theme of “To Be Good at Listening, and To Be Willing to Serve.” We would like to share how the Chinese medical community embodies this spirit, and how it reflects the care and strength of our nation.
First, Chinese medicine is important in Hong Kong. It has a very long history in our city, and many citizens get used to visiting Chinese doctors when they are sick. In recent years, we have also seen an increasing number of mainland Chinese doctors coming to Hong Kong, hoping to serve more people with their expertise. This shows a sincere willingness to serve the Hong Kong community.
The Chinese government always listens to the concerns of society, especially regarding public health. The establishment of the new Chinese Medicine Hospital in Hong Kong香港中醫院is a good example. This project came about because the HK government listened to Hong Kong citizens’ needs for different types of healthcare, showing attentive care and support for our well-being.
Another great example happened during the toughest time of Hong Kong’s fight against COVID-19. The Chinese government helped Hong Kong to build different medical centres and provided vaccines to us. Medical workers from the mainland came without hesitation to stand side-by-side with our local doctors and nurses. They left their own families and comforts behind to serve Hong Kong people. This selfless dedication is the true meaning of being “willing to serve,” and it shows the deep care that our nation has for Hong Kong—like family.
Do you know there is a new virus happening in India, causing widespread concern? People were worried about it, but the Chinese government responded very quickly — not only by strengthening domestic prevention measures but also by achieving a breakthrough in medical technology to combat the virus. This helped protect people and showed that China is ready to help not just its own citizens, but also people around the world.
From the daily dedication of doctors to the responsive actions of the government, we see a consistent commitment: the willingness to listen and the heart to serve by the Chinese government. So, what can we learn?
Listening means paying attention to what people need.
Serving means helping with action.
Our country shows this by taking care about our health, protecting us in hard times, and caring for us like family.
Let us appreciate the care our country has shown us. As students, we can follow this spirit too. Listen carefully to teachers and friends. Help at school and at home. When we listen and serve others, we are also showing love for our country and community.
