In Proverbs 3:27, Jesus said: “Do not withhold good from those whom it is due when it is in your power to act.” From this, we can see that Jesus wants us to care for the Weak. Therefore, today we’d like to share a story called Elijah And The Widow.
During a drought, when the brook had dried up, God commanded Elijah to go to Zarephath. There, a widow woman would take care of him. When Elijah arrived in the city, he saw a woman collecting wood for a fire. He asked her if she could make a loaf of bread, but she was worried that there wouldn’t be enough bread soon. Elijah learned that the widow has a son and between them they only had enough flour and oil for one more meal before they would die. Elijah told her to not be afraid, that God would provide food for them until the rain would return.
Elijah then asked her again to first make one for herself and her son, then make one for him. The widow was faithful to the Lord, she obeyed. And God kept His promise. He had made sure that the flour and oil never ran out again when there’s a drought. The widow was glad that God really helped them. she felt grateful and spreaded the goodness of God to people in Zarephath.
From the story, we can see that God doesn’t only care for his prophet, he is also willing to care for the Weak, even though they might have already lost hope. We should learn from him, show empathy and respect to others and spare no effort to help and guide the needy. There isn’t any exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.
