Christmas is coming. It is a time for us to get together with family and friends. It is the season to bring joy to those in need. It’s difficult to stay simple during Christmas. We are bombarded with a large number of festive advertisements. Shopping with the deadline aiming for the best price brings stress to “buy more, more, and more.”
It’s hard to go against the cultural trends and slow down to enjoy the season. Fast pace means that we miss the satisfaction of enjoying simple things, such as watching Christmas lights, having a cup of coffee with a friend, or listening to Christmas carols by kids.
I would like to suggest some ways to regain simplicity in Christmas.
1. Simple Giving – Set limits on the number of Christmas gifts you give out. If you love the idea of gift giving, it is easy to overdo, so think clearly in advance how many gifts you’ll give to those on your list.
2. Simple Decorations – Use what you have without purchase extra.
3. Simple Shopping – Our present buying should be done according to the following principles, a) Something they want b) Something they need. Keeping these ideas in mind and we can control our spending and gift giving.
