What is love? It’s an abstract concept isn’t it? To love your parents, you must act, you can’t just tell your parents that you love them, you should show them with your actions. Let me tell you a story of loving your parents.
One evening, a son took his father to a high-class restaurant. After getting seated, the son made his order. His father was old and weak, while he was eating, food kept falling on his shirt and trousers. This caught the attention of other diners, they all glared at him with disgust.
Although the diners were unreservedly staring at his father, the son didn’t seem to be embarrassed at all. In fact, after the meal, the son quietly took his father to the washroom and cleaned his clothes, wiping the food from his shirt and the crumbs off his trousers. When they came out of the washroom, the diners sitting there were still staring at them. Again, the son ignored them and paid the bill. At that time, one of the old men among the diners called the young man and asked, “I think you have left something.” The son replied, “No sir, I didn’t.” The old man retorted, “Yes, you have. You have left a lesson for every son, and hope for every father.”
From this story, we can see the love of the son towards his father. When we were young, we also made a mess after eating and did silly things in public. However, our parents never felt embarrassed of us. Likewise, when our parents get older and they lose the ability to take care of themselves, we should not feel embarrassed when taking them out. We should learn from the son in the story, we should care for and respect our parents no matter what.
Always love and care for your parents, now and even more so when they grow older. Despite the fact that they may begin to be clumsy due to their degenerating motor skills and abilities, never make them feel unwanted or unworthy because they have always loved us unconditionally all their lives and in all circumstances. Doing the same for them would be the least you could do.
