Switch to Saint – St. Carlo Acutis

By 4J Cheryl Lam

On September 30th, “Switch to Saint” was successfully held. Our schoolmates learned about the life of St. Carlo Acutis, who was canonized as the first millennial saint of the Catholic Church this month. As a teenager, he devoted himself to volunteering and giving back to the community. Despite enjoying the benefits of advanced technology, St. Carlo exemplified how to use modern tools effectively without wasting time or getting distracted. He utilized his talents to build a website aimed at spreading Catholic teachings globally and helped many people recognize God’s presence in their daily lives. He also maintained strict self-discipline by limiting his video game play to once a week to avoid the dangers of the internet.

During our event, participants were encouraged to learn from St. Carlo’s holiness in following God’s teachings. They shared the joy of eating pizza and playing games together, which were similar to St. Carlo’s hobbies as a teenager. They also wrote down prayers to St. Carlo, who is the patron saint of the Internet and teenagers. We all learned an important lesson from St. Carlo: we should be willing to utilize the talents God has given us and draw closer to Him through good deeds. He is truly an inspiring figure, and we are grateful for the opportunity to learn from him that living a life of joyful faith enhances our freedom and happiness. We could feel that we were being brought closer to God as His loving children.
