Side by Side Mock Trial Teamwork and Growth By 4J Serena Shi and 5J Milly Cheuk

On October 4, our members attended the opening ceremony for the Side By Side Mock Trial competition, followed by an interactive workshop. During the ceremony, we not only drew lots to determine the matchups but also learned about the concepts of public welfare and purity, which are symbolized by the iris flower. We listened to speeches from veteran judges and lawyers, who shared their insights and experiences in an accessible way. It was a meaningful experience that deepened our understanding of and commitment to justice and integrity.

During the mock trial workshop, we were grouped with teams from two other schools for a campus-wide mission. Our goal was to solve puzzles and complete a space travel mission within a tight 90-minute time limit. The challenging tasks required us to communicate clearly, divide work efficiently, and persevere through difficulties, teaching us how to work as a team and never give up. Although we were strangers at the start, we collaborated effectively to finish all the missions. This experience undoubtedly enhanced our communication strategies and problem-solving skills, which will be invaluable in the upcoming competitions.
