S4 Volunteer Day

Embracing Community Connections

by 4L Chantel Au-yeung

On the first day of the second school term. S4 students embarked on a meaningful journey of volunteering during the OLE period. We visited the elderly and holding with the aim of service and creating cherished memories for them. During the visit, one of the activities involved teaching the elderly the “Ten Clever Hands” exercise. This exercise, requiring only hand movements and simple tapping techniques, effectively stimulates blood circulation and maintains the sensitivity of the palms and fingers. This is really important for the elderly. Students also shared their technological skills, teaching the elderly how to navigate apps and utilize their smartphones. Moreover, we included interactive games like Simon Says and Guessing the Song, where students and seniors teamed up for laughter and friendly competition On our visit, we all felt a renewed sense of purpose and connection as the elderly also shared their wisdom and experiences with us. The visit allowed us to bridge the gap between generations. In celebration of the Chinese New Year, red packets filled with thoughtful messages and good wishes were delivered by our ‘God of Wealth,’ bringing smiles to the elderly recipients and reinforcing the spirit of giving. As we welcome the New Year, we look forward to continuing to embrace the joy of giving back and the warmth of connections.
