Our First Market Booth in Over Ten Years — My Business Entrepreneurship Programme 5J Philip Wong

From 11 to 17 February, S4 and S5 BAFS and Economics students took part in the My Business Entrepreneurship Programme. For the first time in over ten years, our student entrepreneurs successfully ran a stall at the Yuen Long Tung Tau flower market.

The preparation process was perhaps the most memorable part of the project. From securing the stall at auction in November to crafting handmade products in January, every stage taught us something new. Designing the booth made us realise this was not a one-day activity or a simple game—it required meticulous planning, coordination, and persistence. Everything was completed on schedule because each team member carried out their responsibilities across different departments in a highly organised way.

Running the stall was both challenging and incredibly rewarding. Engaging with the crowd was the highlight: families strolling by, children tugging at their parents’ sleeves with wide eyes, and curious passersby stopping to look. We greeted customers with warm smiles and demonstrated our products. “Come take a look!” we would call, handing out pieces of our handcrafted items to interested shoppers. Even if a sale did not always follow, these interactions taught us how to negotiate, speak persuasively, and develop an entrepreneurial mindset.

We also learnt that running a successful business depends on more than just a good product. Effective resource management—from budgeting and stock control to time management—alongside strong people management skills, such as assigning roles, motivating teammates, and resolving conflicts, were essential to our success. Balancing these elements helped us operate smoothly and deliver a consistently positive experience to our customers.

This achievement belongs to everyone involved. We would especially like to thank all the partners, teachers, parents, and fellow students who supported the project; nothing would have been possible without your help. Whether you joined us as a customer or as a team member, this was a wonderful experience. We hope to return next year.
