Exploring the Airwaves: Shung Tak S4 & S5 ICT Students Visit OFCA

On 21 March 2026, our S4 and S5 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) students at Shung Tak Catholic English College stepped out of the classroom to participate in the highly anticipated ICT Open Day 2026, organised by the Communications Association of Hong Kong (CAHK).

The highlight of the day was an exclusive, behind-the-scenes visit to the Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA). For our students, who spend their lessons studying data transmission and network theories, this was a unique opportunity to see how the invisible infrastructure of our digital world is actively managed and protected in Hong Kong.

During the visit, Shung Tak students were treated to a comprehensive guided tour of OFCA’s state-of-the-art radio and satellite TV monitoring facilities. Industry experts on-site provided a deep dive into the fascinating world of radio spectrum management. Students learnt firsthand how the city regulates, allocates, and monitors wireless frequencies to ensure smooth and interference-free communication—powering everything from daily mobile networks to critical emergency services.

By bridging the gap between textbook concepts and real-world applications, the ICT Open Day proved to be an eye-opening experience. The tour not only deepened our students’ understanding of Hong Kong’s vital telecommunications landscape but also sparked inspiration for their future academic and career paths in the rapidly evolving technology sector.

We are proud of our students’ enthusiasm and look forward to providing them with more hands-on learning opportunities in the future.
