On September 12, 2025, our school was fortunate to host Professor Lo On Ting from the Wofoo Joseph Lee Consulting and Counselling Psychology Research Centre at Lingnan University for a talk. Shungtakians learned strategies for managing stress, cultivating a growth mindset, and navigating the challenges of academic life.
Professor Lo began the session by addressing the pervasive issue of stress among students. He emphasized that stress, while often seen as a negative force, can be transformed into a motivating factor when approached with the right mindset. By recognizing stress as a natural part of the learning process, students can learn to harness its energy to propel themselves forward rather than feeling overwhelmed.
A significant focus of the talk was on developing a growth mindset—an essential tool for academic success and personal development. Professor Lo explained that individuals with a growth mindset believe that their abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication and hard work.
He provided practical strategies for shifting from negative self-doubt to a more positive self-image. Encouraging students to embrace challenges, learn from criticism, and celebrate their efforts, he highlighted that setbacks are not failures but opportunities for growth.
As we reflect on the key takeaways from the talk, it is clear that managing stress and adopting a growth mindset are vital for thriving in both academics and life. We encourage all Shungtakians to embrace these principles and strive to be their best possible selves.
Remember, every challenge is a chance to grow, and with the right mindset, you can turn obstacles into stepping stones toward your success. Let’s continue to support one another on this journey of self-improvement and resilience! Strive to be your “Best Possible Self”!
