On 8th July 2025, students had a valuable opportunity to visit the M+ Museum, an event jointly organised by the Visual Art Department and the History Department. The visit was an enriching and eye-opening experience, especially for students interested in the intersection of art and historical context.

The highlight of the trip was the exhibition titled “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Picasso for Asia—A Conversation.” This thoughtfully curated showcase featured a diverse collection of artworks, including pieces by Pablo Picasso and responses by various Asian artists inspired by his work.

One of the most impactful pieces on display was Massacre in Korea. In this powerful painting, Picasso masterfully used organic shapes to depict male figures and curvilinear forms to represent women and children, creating a striking visual contrast. His rough and expressive brushstrokes conveyed intense emotions, while the cool, monotone background reflected his deep discontent with war.

Created in response to the Korean War, the artwork stands as a strong expression of Picasso’s anti-war sentiments. Many other works in the exhibition similarly conveyed powerful emotions and offered valuable insights into world history.

These pieces not only educated students about significant historical events but also inspired personal reflection and artistic expression. The exhibition encouraged students to explore how art can be used as a medium to communicate complex ideas and emotions.

Overall, the visit to the M+ Museum deepened our appreciation for the power of art in society. It was a memorable experience that broadened our understanding of both artistic technique and historical narrative. We look forward to more opportunities that inspire creativity and critical thinking in our students.
