Bridge Building Competition

The Physics Club, in collaboration with the Integrated Science, Citizenship, Economics, and Society subjects, hosted an exciting Bridge Building Competition during lunchtime. S2 students showcased their engineering skills by constructing bridges designed to span a 35 cm gap, using limited materials such as popsicle sticks, cardboard, string, and tape. The bridges were tested by incrementally adding 100 g weights until they either collapsed or reached the maximum load of 1.5 kg. Through this hands-on experience, students learned about structural integrity, load distribution, and the importance of design in engineering. Different strategies emerged: some teams focused on triangular trusses for added strength, while others prioritized lightweight designs using minimal materials. A few experimented with layered cardboard to enhance durability.
