The Board Game Group Experience In today’s fast-paced school environment, finding moments of joy and connection can be challenging. However, the Board Game Group, organized by the Guidance Team, has provided a refreshing way for students to engage with one another beyond the classroom. Two Shungtakians, 3J Blue Lo and 2L Pauline Tang, share their experiences in this group, highlighting the fun, friendships, and valuable life lessons they’ve gained through playing board games together. Their reflections illustrate how such activities can enhance social interaction, relieve stress, and foster a sense of community among peers.
3J Blue Lo’s Experience
The Board Game Group was quite an eye-opener. For once, I was able to try out board games that had been left untouched in Room 122 for a while. To be honest, they were definitely more enjoyable than getting frustrated with an online game. I really enjoyed playing with everyone in the group.
I also learned to be patient while waiting for my turn and to be careful in my choices by considering the consequences of each decision. I must admit, I never realized that making mindful purchases in Splendor could be such a fun experience, which often makes me want to visit Room 122 more often to play it with someone.
2L Pauline Tang’s Experience
In this school term, I joined the Board Game Group organized by the Guidance Team. Through this activity, I have learned to communicate with friends and classmates. When we play board games, we need to collaborate with our groupmates to achieve our goals.
Another benefit I gained was friendship. At the beginning, we didn’t know each other well since we were from different classes. However, after a few sessions, we got to know each other better and found common topics to discuss. Eventually, most of us became familiar with one another, and we discovered shared hobbies beyond just board games!
I believe this activity is beneficial for us. Many of us experience significant stress while studying at school and don’t have much leisure time. This group not only helps us relieve stress but also brings us a lot of joy. It fosters a supportive environment where we can unwind and enjoy each other’s company. Overall, participating in the Board Game Group has enriched our school experience and strengthened our friendships.
