Our guest of honour, Mr Robert Tai, BBS, MH, JP, Fr Li, Sr Michelle, honoured guests, alumni, teachers and Shungtakians, good afternoon,
On behalf of STC, I stand before you with immense gratitude as we bring this year’s Annual Athletic Meet to a close. The Annual Athletic Meet has been a celebration of energy, teamwork, and the indomitable spirit of our young athletes—a true embodiment of our school motto, “Ora et Labora” (Pray and Work).
May I extend our deepest thanks to our Guest of honour, Mr. Tai, BBS, MH, JP for gracing this occasion with your esteemed presence. Thank you for taking the time to be here with us, for sharing your sporting experiences at STC, and for your message shared – doing our best, regardless of our role. I am confident that all Shungtakians will always remember that every contribution, big or small, deserves our full effort, commitment and heart. Thank you, Mr. Tai, for your continued unwavering support to our school. As an alumnus, you exemplify the power of prayer, perseverance, and hard work. Thank you.
A special word of appreciation goes to our dedicated PE teachers, whose tireless effort in training our students, guidance, and encouragement have contributed to today’s success. Your commitment ensures that our students don’t just play but grow—physically, mentally, and morally.
We also extend our gratitude to our teachers and student helpers who contributed in various roles and capacities – as event coordinators, timekeepers, and cheerleaders—your enthusiasm made this day vibrant and memorable. And finally, to our office staff and janitors — your behind-the-scenes efforts did not go unnoticed. It is your preparations that ensured the smooth execution of today’s events.
To our talented athletes — today, you didn’t just run, jump, or compete; your performance embodied courage, discipline, and perseverance. Whether you won a medal or not, you’ve already won by pushing yourself, going beyond your limits, and upholding the values of fair play. Remember, every drop of sweat counts and every moment of effort aligns with our motto of St Benedict ‘pray and work’: pray for strength, and work for excellence.
May the spirit of sportsmanship continue to inspire us in different aspects of life. Once again, thank you all for pulling this off and making this Annual Athletic Meet (2024-2025) a grand success!
Thank you and God bless,
Dr Cecilia Tang
