We have long been supporters of the Hong Kong Young Ambassador Scheme which is co-organised by the Tourism Commission of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups. The Scheme gives young people the opportunity to “actively engage in promoting Hong Kong’s hospitality and multifaceted charm to locals and visitors all over the world, with the aim of enriching their travel experiences, as well as supporting the sustainable development of the tourism industry.” (HKFYG, 2025). In the past academic year, 6M Mercury Cheung and 6M Iris Ng were nominated by the school to participate in the Scheme. Through their wonderful work in the Scheme and also in other service-related events, they have each logged over a hundred hours of service. Their dedication to serving those in the community and around the world is truly inspiring. Read on to find out a bit about their thoughts.
Reflections of a Volunteer 6M
Mercury Cheung
In the last academic year, I joined volunteer activities organised by our school as well by other organisations. I gained many unforgettable memories and remarkable lessons from this volunteer work.
Knowledge is not only learned from lessons in school, but also from our society. In service, we help those in need in our community, and I found that although some of them did not lack daily resources, they in fact needed more companionship from others. A short conversation really helped them feel warmth and care from those around them.
Throughout these experiences, I discovered that the number of people in need is greater than I had thought, and a small action from us can lighten their hearts. Being a volunteer is not only about giving help to others, but also about helping me pay more attention to the societal issues that are happening around us.
So, it is time for all of us to start taking action and I encourage you to join me in participating in volunteer activities.
The Heart of Service: A Young Ambassador’s Journey
6M Iris Ng
Serving others is one of the most meaningful ways to grow, connect, and make a lasting impact. Through my experience as a Young Ambassador in the Hong Kong Young Ambassador Programme, I have come to see that service is not just a task, but a mindset—one that values empathy, initiative, and community.
Whether assisting tourists at local attractions, taking on frontline roles to support event operations, or co-creating a city hunt from scratch with my team, each moment has deepened my appreciation for purposeful service. From planning and designing to guiding and engaging, these experiences have shown me how small actions—like offering help or sharing local insights—can brighten someone’s journey and foster genuine connection.
Service has the power to inspire, both for those who give and those who receive. By stepping up and serving others, we don’t just represent our city—we help shape a more welcoming, thoughtful, and united society.
