Chasing Joy, Not Just Medals

Good morning, everyone. We are the representatives of the Yellow House. Today, we’d like to share a few thoughts on this month’s theme: being aware of our blessings, finding contentment, and discovering joy in all things.

In the daily rush of school life, it is easy to get caught up in deadlines, tests, and routine pressures. When we focus only on what is stressful, we lose sight of what we have. However, taking a moment to count our blessings completely shifts our perspective. Finding contentment doesn’t mean settling or giving up on striving for excellence; it means appreciating where we are right now, valuing the support around us, and recognising the simple, good things in our daily lives.

Our upcoming Sports Day in October offers a perfect opportunity to put this into practice. While it is natural to focus on winning and scoring points, true joy comes from embracing the experience itself. When we cheer wholeheartedly for our athletes, share laughs in the stands, and know that everyone gave their absolute best, we discover a fulfilment that goes far beyond winning a medal. Gratitude is what turns a simple sports event into an unforgettable memory for our entire house.

We can bring this same spirit into our classrooms by focusing on our personal growth rather than constantly comparing ourselves to others. School is not a race against our classmates. When we learn to appreciate our own unique progress and celebrate small victories along the way, whether it’s finally understanding a tough topic or helping a friend, we build a happier, far more supportive community.

Let’s practice gratitude together this month and find joy in every step of our journey. To help us cultivate a grateful and joyful heart in our daily lives, let us pray for contentment.
