Requiem Mass

By 2L Isabell Leung

Since November is the month dedicated to the holy souls in purgatory, we held a Requiem Mass on the 21st November to pray for the souls. Former school supervisor, Fr. Arturo, was the celebrant. The Mass was a time for us in a Catholic school to reflect and unite in prayer for the departed souls. In the Mass, the homily focussed on death and our understanding of it. I was unsure of what would happen when I die—whether I would go to heaven or not.

However, after the Mass, I gained a new perspective on death. Father explained that death is not the end of our lives, but rather a chance for us to meet God. We may not go directly to heaven at first; instead, we would go to purgatory. After we are purified and choose to follow God, we can enter heaven and remain with Him forever. This Mass provided me with a new understanding of death: it is not an end but a new beginning. As we live our lives, let us remember our mission in life and strive to follow the teachings of Jesus and the Catholic Church, so that one day we can share in the eternal joy of heaven with God.
