S2 Leadership Training Camp

Three Days, Thousand Legs, Countless Joy

On the first day of our training camp, the coach asked us some fundamental questions: “Who are you?” “What are you doing here?” and “Why are you here?” Most of us struggled to come up with a solid answer. However, after those three days of training, I am confident that each participant has a clearer understanding to these questions. Knowing Ourselves To kick off the camp, we formed groups and created group names that would reflect our goals. Then, we were introduced to the True Colours Personalities Test where we got to know more about the personalities of both ourselves and our groupmates – the people with gold personalities think carefully; the people with blue personalities are caring; people with orange personalities are action-takers; people with green personalities are good at executing plans. Each of us possesses unique strengths. With this knowledge, we were challenged to accomplish different missions, each with ascending difficulty, requiring us to leverage the strengths of each team member Overcoming Challenges The mercury was high when the three groups set off for Cheung Chau the next day. Tasked with planning our own routes, the groups used different modes of transportation to reach Cheung Chau. Upon arrival, we had lunch and finished some checkpoint tasks together. The trek to Jockey Club Cheung Chau Don Bosco Youth Centre left us soaked in sweat. We first did some team-building activities there. At one point, when we were trying to think of a group name, a centipede invaded the activity room, resulting in a lot of screaming. The centipede did not come with no meaning, at least we finally settled with a group name. In the evening, Centipede was challenged to climb on ropes and rocks. Although they unnerved us, with the support of our groupmates, we managed to build trust and this strengthened the bonds between us. Finally, we completed the tasks successfully. Just Do It Why did we sign up for this programme? The answer became obvious on the third day after we jumped into the water from the highest deck of a ship. The height intimidated us, and the seawater engulfed us as we trembled and screamed. However, none of us backed down. We were determined to do whatever it takes to become leaders. Driven by our can-do spirit, we decided to face the challenge head-on. Like a centipede with many legs, each representing one of us, together we will reach our destination.
