The Similes of Salt and Light

By 4J Jan Yung On the 26th of September, the Inauguration Ceremony of the Catholic Society took place in the morning assembly with our principal Dr Tang. Although the ceremony has been postponed due to the typhoon, the ceremony was held very successfully still and it was really meaningful to us. While we take the oath, we promise to spread the love of God to the people around us and to do all of our evangelization work properly as members of Catholic society. When we receive the badge from Dr Tang, I believe all of us understand that as the executive members of Catholic society, we also shoulder one more extra responsibility when we do our work, that is to let Shungtakians imitate our patron saints Ss. Peter and Paul to be the Salt of the earth, and the Light of the world. “You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father. – Matthew 5:13-16
