On the afternoon of 31 May 2026, history was made for our school community. A team of 16 students and three teachers took to the bustling streets of Tsim Sha Tsui to participate in the spectacular Fire Dragon Dance performance.
This meaningful experiential learning activity was co-organised by our Chinese History Department and the Service Learning and Moral & Civic Education Committee. Together, they provided a unique platform for our students to connect deeply with local traditions.
While many attend such cultural events as spectators, we were incredibly honoured to join as performers for the very first time. Under the expert guidance of the Pok Fu Lam Village Fire Dragon Association, our team successfully commanded the majestic dragon, bringing it to life with immense energy and synchronised teamwork.
The exhilarating performance was one of the major highlights of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Month programme, which aims to preserve and promote Hong Kong’s rich traditional customs. Through this hands-on experience, our students not only learned about the historical significance of the ritual but also practised teamwork.
“Lifting the dragon and feeling the energy of the crowd made me feel deeply connected to our roots,” shared one of the participants.
Our deepest gratitude goes to the Pok Fu Lam Village Fire Dragon Association for their invaluable training, and to our co-organising departments for making this unforgettable debut possible.
