Resonancia – Joint School A Cappella Show (QC & STC & HCY)

By 5P Nicole Tjhin

Organising a joint-school a cappella concert for nine schools as an S5 student is a miracle that I never thought I would be able to accomplish. On 26 April 2026, the Joint-School A Cappella Show, Resonancia, was held at Queen’s College, with me representing Shung Tak as a member of the Organising Committee. Our school co-organised the show with Queen’s College and Tsuen Wan Public Ho Chuen Yiu Memorial School. There were also six participating schools: Evangel College, Hong Kong Community College of Polytechnic University, Kowloon True Light School, Pui Ching Middle School, SKH Bishop Mok Sau Tseng Secondary School, and Po Leung Kuk Tang Yuk Tien College.

Having a joint-school event held has brought a profound impact to all the participants of the concert, including the members of our a cappella team, Detonate. The concert gave us performers a chance to enjoy the fabulous performances by other schools’ teams. Apart from the official concert period, we had rehearsals before the concert, and we got the precious opportunity to enjoy and learn from the other teams’ performances. Similarly, all the other schools were also glad that they could step out of their school environment to broaden their horizons. Communication, observation, support, and appreciation among teams were the most valuable elements that we acquired. As a member of the organising committee, I feel extremely fortunate and grateful to see the performers learning more about what exactly ‘a cappella’ is, with all the different people’s voices, rhythm, harmonies, cooperation, joy, and enjoyment.

At the end of the show, we were honoured to have our guest performer, Boonfaysau, conclude the show with a massive sing-along with all the performers. We sang the song ‘差一點我們會飛’, hoping to encourage everyone, including us, never to be afraid to dream big, and to be brave to chase our dreams and goals instead; not to be afraid to fly high to reach our goals, no matter how far they may seem.

The joint-school a cappella show memorably taught me that while a single voice is clear, voices in harmony are transformative. I did not help organise a concert, I helped build a community. That resonance is something I will carry long after the final curtain call.
