Live wisely: Why You Must Say No to Drugs

On 13 February 2026, two social workers from the ELCHK Enlighten Centre visited STC to deliver a talk to S1 to S3 students about the dangers of drug abuse.

The session began with an interactive game highlighting common reasons why individuals might be tempted to try drugs. One of the social workers then shared his personal story. He recounted being first introduced to drugs by friends during a difficult period following the passing of his girlfriend. Struggling to cope with his emotions, he turned to drugs as an escape. However, he eventually made the courageous decision to turn his life around; he no longer wanted to disappoint his mother, who had remained steadfastly supportive throughout his journey. Fortunately, he successfully overcame his addiction.

His vivid and sincere sharing deeply inspired Shungtakians. They not only learnt about the harmful physiological effects of drugs but also realised their irreversible life consequences. Most importantly, the talk reminded them to express their emotions in healthy ways rather than resorting to substances that can destroy both health and future.

The talk was truly meaningful, reinforcing the powerful message to ‘Say No’ to drugs and to choose positive ways of coping with life’s challenges.
