On 28 March, the Catholic students and I went to St. Paul’s House of Prayer for a retreat. We met at 9 o’clock in the morning and travelled there together. On the way, I suddenly realised that I had not recharged my phone, so it had no battery. That meant I couldn’t use my phone for the whole day, but surprisingly, I found some peace and quiet without it.
During the retreat, we learned a lot through different activities. First, we played a short game to test our knowledge of the Catholic faith. Then we had our first talk, which was about “What is Baptism?” Even though I had heard about this topic many times before, I still found something new and deeper each time. For example, I learned more about where the devil comes from. It was refreshing for my religious life, but it was also a great opportunity for me to meet my pupils and share our faith together.
IIt was a fruitful day indeed, but the most important thing I realised was that when we put down our electronic devices, we can discover many interesting things happening around us. If we try to stop using our phones and pay attention to our surroundings, we may feel more peaceful and calmer inside.
