A Day of Giving Back
By Bobo Fong
As students, we often find ourselves focused on academics, but it’s important to remember those in our community who need our support. Recently, during our OLE volunteering activity, we had the chance to explore this important question.
On February 28th, all F5 students participated in organizing games and activities for various groups. Class 5L had the privilege of visiting the HKFYG Hung Shui Kiu Youth S.P.O.T. to engage with a group of elderly participants.
Despite having only a week to prepare, our classmates came together to brainstorm creative ideas and draw from previous experiences, resulting in four enjoyable games tailored for the elderly.
We encountered some unexpected challenges, such as accommodating a wheelchair user and engaging participants who were initially hesitant to join in. However, it was inspiring to see how our class adapted to these situations. Everyone was fully engaged and flexible, overcoming obstacles with teamwork and enthusiasm.
One of the highlights of the day was witnessing the joy on the elderly participants’ faces as they reached out to give us a “10 out of 10” for our efforts. Their genuine smiles were incredibly rewarding.
I am truly grateful for the opportunity to bring happiness to the elderly; it was an unforgettable afternoon that reminded us of the impact we can have on our community.
