As part of the 2025-2026 JC Volunteer Leadership Programme, our team designed and organised a community service project titled “Mom’s Summer Chill Workshop.” This summer, we visited St. Jude’s Catholic Church in North Point to serve local families, creating a meaningful morning for both mothers and children.
To engage the children, we invited a professional coach to introduce them to pickleball, an exciting, emerging sport. Our team accompanied the children throughout the session, playing alongside them and cheering them on. Seeing their boundless energy, vibrant smiles, and enthusiasm on the court filled the entire venue with joy. Meanwhile, we hosted a craft workshop for the mothers, guiding them to create handmade items and customised tote bags, providing them with a much-needed break from daily household responsibilities.
This experience brought me invaluable personal growth. During the project, I realised that volunteering often pushes us outside our comfort zones. Even when tasked with responsibilities I was not naturally skilled at, I learned to step up, put in my best effort, and overcome challenges with enthusiasm.
Furthermore, seeing the mothers relax while watching the kids burst with vitality reminded me of the unseen dedication involved in caregiving. It served as a gentle reminder that mutual empathy and understanding within a family are essential. Ultimately, this project taught me to strive for my best in unfamiliar situations and to cherish my own family even more deeply.
