What provides more comfort than fluffy creatures spinning around you after a long, exhausting day? Recognising the large number of dog lovers at STC, Cacilhas collaborated with the House of Joy and Mercy—an animal shelter working closely with the school’s volunteer team—to organise a two-day dog cafe within the school.
The event took place after school on 15 April and 21 April, and consisted of two 45-minute sessions. In addition to listening to heartwarming stories shared by the organisation and interacting with the three dogs, students could also enjoy a free drink and purchase desserts prepared by the Living Arts Society.
Two days may seem short, but hearing a participant say, “These dogs are adorable and friendly, but spotting their scars and disabilities, I cannot imagine what they have gone through to finally live peacefully,” proved that our dog cafe was a great success. Immersed in the experience, students not only found relaxation but also developed empathy for the animals. They further learnt to protect animal rights and understand the responsibilities of an owner.
The success of the Cacilhas Dog Cafe was the result of hard work from Cacilhas, the Living Arts Society, the House of Joy and Mercy, and all participants. We hope this is only the beginning of our collaboration, and that we will continue working together to protect animal welfare.
