Building Memories, Building Futures

The Guidance Team, in collaboration with the ELCHK Tin Shui Wai District Youth Outreaching Social Work Team, recently organised a two-day, one-night residential camp for eight Shungtakians. Far more than just a brief pause from academic routines, the camp created a supportive space for students to step out of their comfort zones, strengthen their self-discipline, and grow together. Through various trust-building exercises, participants began to open up, discover hidden strengths, and boost their self-confidence.

The true power of teamwork and communication became clear through two core challenges. First, during the Campus Treasure Hunt, teams had to brainstorm strategies, delegate roles, and solve complex puzzles together, proving that every individual’s contribution was vital to the group’s success. Later, during the Group Cooking Challenge, students were tasked with negotiating menus, dividing tasks, and managing strict meal timings. Handling unexpected kitchen mishaps in real time required immense patience, adaptability, and mutual support.

These hands-on experiences led to inspiring personal growth. Over the course of the two days, quieter students naturally stepped into leadership roles, competitive individuals learned the value of uplifting their peers, and students from different social circles merged into tight-knit teams.

By the end of the second afternoon, every participant walked away with greater self-awareness, clearer personal goals, and a much deeper trust in one another. Ultimately, the camp proved that education extends far beyond the classroom. When young people are placed in a challenging yet supportive environment, they build strong character, forge lasting connections, and discover the courage to shine.
